Large Dog Teepee: 8 Tent Beds Compared by Listed Size

As an Amazon Associate we earn from qualifying purchases.

A large dog teepee is a tent-style bed that a big dog sleeps inside, usually with a peaked or domed roof. For a large dog, start with length: take the back from the collar to the base of the tail, then compare that figure with the longest side of the tent.

This guide covers the eight tent-style listings in our research file. Two other listings were dropped, and the reasons are given below. The figures come only from the listing data recorded on 2026-10-21. Where a listing disagrees with itself, both figures are shown.

Quick answer

  • Start with length. Only the PELZIN listing (41 inches) and the Jiupety listing (38 inches) give a longest side above 36 inches.
  • A weight range is stated for three tents only: SKTREVAN (35 to 75 lb), Jiupety (50 to 90 lb) and Himake (30 to 60 lb). No listing gives a maximum weight in its specification fields.
  • Enclosed warmth is a listing claim. The AKC guide we opened suggests insulating a crate with blankets to give a dog a warm, enclosed place to rest. It does not give heat figures for any tent.
  • Five of the eight listings state machine washing as the care method. None says how the frame or cover holds up to chewing.

What the listings state

The table gives each listing’s figures as they appear in the research record. “Not stated” means the field is absent. The longest side is the largest figure in the listing’s dimensions.

The size calculation

Two formulas do most of the work. Formula 1: floor area in square inches equals the first two listed figures multiplied together. Formula 2: the fit check passes when the longest side is at least the dog’s back length, taken from the collar to the base of the tail. The AKC carrier guide uses that same measurement, and we apply it to tents because the tent listings give no other standard.

Formula 2 is a floor, not a guarantee. None of the listings gives wall thickness or says whether its figures are inside or outside the walls, so the usable interior is smaller than the listed figures and cannot be calculated from the record.

Worked example, for a dog whose back measures 34 inches. Six of the eight listings pass Formula 2: Hovicaed (36), SKTREVAN (35), Himake (35.8), Jiupety (38), WooPetty (36) and PELZIN (41). YOUGYM misses by 0.1 inch (33.9 against 34). Fesjoy fails by a wide margin.

Formula 1 gives the floor area of each tent. Jiupety has the largest floor on its listed figures, and PELZIN is second.

Listing Calculation (in) Floor area (sq in)
Jiupety 38 x 30 1,140
PELZIN 41 x 27 1,107
SKTREVAN 35 x 29.5 1,032.5
Hovicaed 36 x 26 936
WooPetty 36 x 26 936
Himake 35.8 x 26 930.8
YOUGYM 33.9 x 27 915.3
Fesjoy 27.56 x 6.69 184.4

Weight is the second check. Take a 70-pound dog as an example. SKTREVAN’s stated range of 35 to 75 pounds covers that dog, and so does Jiupety’s range of 50 to 90 pounds. Himake’s stated range stops at 60 pounds, so it does not. The other five listings state no weight range, so the record cannot confirm them for that dog. If a flat orthopedic bed suits your dog better than a tent, the orthopedic dog beds for extra large dogs guide compares those.

How we chose

We started with the ten listings in the research file, recorded on 2026-10-21. All ten were gathered for the keyword large dog teepee. We applied four criteria, in this order:

  • The listing describes an enclosed tent, teepee, cave or den bed for a dog.
  • The record gives usable dimensions.
  • The record states a dog size or weight range, or it states none.
  • Frame and cover details are shown as the listing states them, even where they conflict.

Two listings were dropped. BXEBUI (B0DP6X582G) is a memory-sponge bed with a threshold pillow and no tent frame in its record. Its listed size of 18 by 12 by 14 inches conflicts with its own “Extra Large” name. Zooba (B0GVP9K84P) is an outdoor steel-frame canopy shelter with a separate elevated bed, which is a different product type. Its ASIN is already in our published guide to extra large outdoor dog beds with canopies.

That leaves eight. The cards below follow the order of the research file. We did not rank them, and no ranking is implied.

The eight listings

1. Hovicaed indoor tent, 36 x 26 x 26 inches

Why it is here: the listed longest side is 36 inches, and the bullets describe a high-strength metal frame and a detachable structure for cleaning. The bullets also say the walls help keep out cold air in winter, which is a listing claim we cannot confirm.

Skip if: you need a weight range or a frame material in the specification fields. Neither is given.

Limit: the specifications name Australian Shepherds and Border Collies as the target species, and no maximum dog weight is stated.

2. SKTREVAN indoor dog house, 35 inch longest side

Why it is here: the only listing whose title states a dog weight range, 35 to 75 pounds. It has a PVC pipe frame, a reversible cushion with flannel on one side and Oxford fabric on the other, a non-slip base, and a design that the listing describes as foldable for storage.

Skip if: your dog weighs more than 75 pounds, which is the top of the stated range.

Limit: the title gives 29 by 29 by 35 inches, while the specifications list the height as 29.5 inches.

3. YOUGYM insulated indoor tent, 33.9 x 27 x 33.9 inches

Why it is here: it is the only listing in the group that states roll-up mesh windows on both sides, with a PVC frame and a plush cushion that has a warm side and a cool side. Its longest side of 33.9 inches falls just short of the 34-inch example in the calculation.

Skip if: you need a stated material, because the specifications say plastic while the bullets say Oxford fabric.

Limit: the listing gives two weights for the tent itself, 7 pounds in a bullet and 8.98 pounds in the specifications, and no maximum dog weight.

View on Amazon

4. Jiupety indoor dog cave with frame, 38 x 30 x 28 inches

Why it is here: the bullets give 38 by 30 by 28 inches as the inside dimensions and a 50 to 90 pound dog range. The listing says a 19-side frame supports the tent all round, and it describes foam-filled walls and a sponge mat. The specifications give machine wash as the care method.

Skip if: your dog weighs under 50 pounds, which is the bottom of the stated range.

Limit: the item-dimension field lists only 38 and 28 inches, so the width comes from the product-dimension field and the bullets.

5. Himake enclosed dog tent, 36 x 26 x 26 inches

Why it is here: the bullets state a 30 to 60 pound dog range. The listing also gives a PVC frame, a zippered cover that the listing says supports machine washing, and insulation that the listing describes as blocking cold air in winter.

Skip if: your dog weighs more than 60 pounds, which is the top of the stated range.

Limit: the specifications show two packs against one item, and list the figures as 26 deep and 35.8 wide.

6. WooPetty enclosed indoor dog house, 36 x 26 x 26 inches

Why it is here: a foam-cushioned interior, a removable cover with a bottom zipper, and a package that includes a dog pad and a house frame. The title and specifications both give one size, 36 by 26 by 26 inches.

Skip if: you need a choice of sizes, since a bullet mentions several sizes and the record shows only one.

Limit: no maximum dog weight is stated, and the cushion is described only as a 3 centimeter foam layer.

7. PELZIN orthopedic cave with cover, 41 x 27 inches

Why it is here: the longest listed side in the group, 41 inches, in an arched cave with two support poles. The listing says it fits 42-inch crates and has a waterproof zip-off lining and a suede cover. It describes the bed as orthopedic and the foam as egg-crate. We cannot say more about the foam than that.

Skip if: you need a stated weight range, since none is given.

Limit: the listing does not state the material of its two support poles.

8. Fesjoy pet teepee tent, gray

Why it is here: the only listing whose title uses the word teepee. The bullets describe a triangular shape meant to stay upright, a soft thick cushion and a generous interior.

Skip if: you need a usable size, since the specifications give only 27.56 by 6.69 by 5.12 inches.

Limit: those three figures cannot describe a usable interior for a large dog, and the record does not explain them.

Where the listings disagree

Each item below shows both figures. None has been settled in favor of one.

  • Hovicaed: the bullets say metal frame, and the specifications give polyester as the only material.
  • SKTREVAN: the title says 35 inches tall, while the specifications list the height as 29.5 inches and the depth as 35.
  • YOUGYM: the bullets say Oxford fabric and 7 pounds, while the specifications say plastic and 8.98 pounds.
  • Jiupety: the item-dimension field gives 38 and 28 only. The 30-inch width appears in the product-dimension field and the bullets.
  • Himake: the title says 36 by 26 by 26 inches, and the specifications list 26 deep, 35.8 wide and 26 high. The three figures agree, but their order differs.
  • WooPetty: a bullet says the design comes in multiple sizes, while the title and specifications show one size.
  • Fesjoy: the bullets describe a large and spacious design, while the specifications give 27.56 by 6.69 by 5.12 inches. Those figures cannot be the interior of a tent for a large dog.

Warmth, ventilation and enclosed space

An enclosed bed is the reason a teepee exists, so the warmth claims matter. Several listings say their walls insulate, and some say they keep out cold air in winter. The AKC guide on keeping dogs warm that we opened suggests insulating a crate with blankets over the top so the dog has a warm, enclosed area to retreat to. It also says dogs use their own body heat to warm their bedding. That supports the general idea that enclosed space can hold warmth. It does not address tent frames or wall materials, and it gives no heat figures for any product here.

Ventilation is the other side of enclosure. The ASPCA travel guide we opened says to keep a pet secure in a well-ventilated crate or carrier. Only the YOUGYM listing states roll-up mesh windows. Several others describe a semi-enclosed or enclosed design without giving any vent opening. Before you buy an enclosed tent, check the openings against the listing description, because the record gives no vent sizes for these tents. For an enclosed cave bed compared on its own terms, see our orthopedic cave pet bed guide.

Chewing and cover care

None of the listings states how the frame or cover holds up to chewing, and the pages we opened do not cover chewing of tents. This guide therefore makes no claim that any of these frames resists chewing. The one cleaning detail most of the group shares is machine washing as the care method, and five listings state it. If your dog chews, look at the frame and cover regularly and replace any part that is damaged. If the frame is your priority, the heavy duty dog houses guide covers a different range of shelters.

What we could not verify

  • A weight limit for five of the eight tents. No maximum weight appears in any specification field, and three listings give a range only in their titles or bullets.
  • The interior size of every tent. The listings do not say whether their figures are inside or outside the walls, and none gives wall thickness.
  • Frame strength and chew resistance. No listing gives a strength or durability figure that can be confirmed.
  • Heat retention. The listings make insulation claims. We did not find a source that gives heat figures for a tent, and the pages we opened cover crates, carriers and home warmth, not tents.
  • Whether dogs prefer enclosed beds. Some listings say they do. The pages we opened do not address it.
  • Outdoor use. The specification fields do not state it for these eight tents, and only PELZIN lists an indoor use.
  • Any usable size for Fesjoy. Its three figures cannot describe an interior, and the record does not explain them.

Mistakes to avoid

  • Buying on the title alone. SKTREVAN’s title says 35 inches tall, and its specifications say 29.5.
  • Reading only the bullets. YOUGYM’s bullets and specifications disagree on material and weight, so read both before you decide.
  • Ignoring the weight range. Himake’s stated range stops at 60 pounds, so a heavier dog sits outside it.
  • Assuming a size choice exists. WooPetty’s bullets mention several sizes, but its title and specifications show one.
  • Skipping the length check. Fesjoy’s listed figures are far below the 34-inch example, so the length check removes it at once.

Who should skip a tent bed

  • A dog whose back is longer than the tent’s longest side. Formula 2 fails for that tent, so the listing’s own figure rules it out.
  • A buyer who needs a stated weight range and cannot find one. Five of the eight listings give none, so ask the seller before you order.
  • A buyer who needs outdoor shade. Most of these tents give no outdoor use, and the one outdoor listing was dropped. For shade, see our outdoor dog bed with canopy guide.
  • A dog that has trouble stepping over a threshold or getting in and out. None of the eight listings states an entry height or opening size. Ask your vet about access before you buy.

Buying checklist

  • Take your dog’s back length from the collar to the base of the tail and write it down.
  • Find the longest side in the listing and compare it with that figure.
  • Confirm that the stated weight range covers your dog, or ask the seller for one before you buy.
  • Read the frame and cover material in both the bullets and the specifications.
  • Look for vent openings in the description, and note any that the listing does not give.

Frequently asked questions

How big should a large dog teepee be?

Start with your dog’s back length, taken from the collar to the base of the tail, using the method the AKC carrier guide describes. The same guide says a dog should be able to stand up, turn around and stretch when lying down. The pages we opened do not give an amount of extra room, so treat the longest listed side as the minimum and check the rest against your dog.

Is an enclosed teepee warmer than an open bed?

The listings say their walls insulate. The AKC guide on keeping dogs warm suggests insulating a crate with blankets to give a dog a warm, enclosed place to rest, and it says dogs warm their bedding with their own body heat. Those are general points about enclosed space. They are not measurements of any teepee, and we cannot say how much warmer any of these tents keeps a dog.

Does a teepee need ventilation?

The ASPCA travel guide says to keep a pet secure in a well-ventilated crate or carrier. Among the eight listings, only YOUGYM states roll-up mesh windows. For the rest, check the vent openings in the listing description before you buy, because the record does not give their sizes.

Can a dog chew through a fabric teepee?

The listings do not say how the frame or cover holds up to chewing, and the pages we opened do not cover it. This guide cannot say that any of these tents resists chewing. If your dog chews, check the frame and cover regularly.

Which of these teepees can be washed?

Five listings state machine washing as the care method: YOUGYM, Jiupety, Himake, WooPetty and PELZIN. SKTREVAN describes washable fabric without a washing method, Hovicaed describes a detachable structure without one, and Fesjoy states nothing about care.

Bottom line

Measure your dog’s back from the collar to the base of the tail, then choose only a tent whose longest side covers that figure and whose stated weight range includes your dog. If the listing states no weight range, ask the seller for it and for the interior size before you buy. Where a listing disagrees with itself, treat the figure as unconfirmed until both numbers agree.
