Search for the largest dog bed and you get two different kinds of product: giant “human dog beds” that run 71 to 77.5 inches long, and jumbo dog beds that top out around 55 inches. This guide compares eight of the biggest listings by their stated size, weight limit, fill and cover care. We rank by the dimensions each seller prints, and we point out where those numbers disagree with each other. Every bed here is at least 53 inches long on the listing. A big outer size is not the same as a usable sleeping area, so measure your dog and your floor before you pick.

Quick answer

  • Biggest footprint on paper: TNELTUEB, 77.5 x 61.8 inches, though its dimension fields are wrong.
  • Best documented human-size bed: WROS, 71 x 45 inches with a 100 pound limit on the listing.
  • Highest stated weight limit: Dogbed4less Jumbo, 55 x 47 inches, 150 pounds.
  • Lightest and foldable: EHEYCIGA, 54 x 38 inches, 12.82 pounds, folds to 38 x 27 inches.

Pick by your dog’s measured length and weight first. Then check the weight limit, the cover care and whether the listing contradicts itself.

The eight beds side by side

Floor area below is our own arithmetic: listed length times listed width. It includes bolsters, so it overstates the flat sleeping space.

Bed Listed size (in) Floor area (sq in) Stated max weight Weight (lb)
TNELTUEB 77.5 x 61.8 x 9.8 about 4,790 not stated 16.5
Fvkind 73 x 56 x 12 4,088 not stated 34.4
LOVEPals 71 x 45 x 12 3,195 not stated 15
WROS 71 x 45 x 12 3,195 100 lb 23
Dogbed4less Jumbo 55 x 47 x 4 2,585 150 lb 22
AMOISE 53 x 42 x 8 2,226 not stated 13.24
CWAWZ 53 x 42 x 9.5 2,226 not stated 15.65
EHEYCIGA Foldable 54 x 38 x 7.5 2,052 not stated 12.82

Two kinds of “largest”

The first kind is the human-size dog bed. Four listings here (TNELTUEB, Fvkind, LOVEPals and WROS) describe a bed that holds an adult and a pet. They are 71 inches long or more, thick, and mostly oval or rectangular with raised sides. The second kind is the jumbo dog bed made for a single big dog or two. Those run 53 to 55 inches long, and the Dogbed4less listing is the only one that prints a weight limit as high as 150 pounds.

If the bed is only for the dog, the jumbo group is usually enough room and takes less floor. The human-size group makes sense when the bed will also hold you, a child or several dogs, and when you have the space. For wider comparisons see our guides to dog beds big enough for a human and the PLUFL giant bed.

How to measure before you buy

The American Kennel Club’s guide to measuring dogs for gear says to measure back length along the top of the spine, from the base of the neck to the base of the tail, with the dog standing. It also says to keep the tape snug but not tight and to slip two fingers under it for any girth. The AKC page does not cover beds, so the margin for stretching is ours, not the AKC’s.

  • Measure the dog standing, then add room to stretch while lying on its side.
  • Weigh the dog and compare with any stated maximum weight, using the lower figure if a listing gives two.
  • Measure the floor space, the door, the hallway and the washer drum.

Worked example: a 36 inch dog on a 53 inch bed

This is a planning example, not a standard. Say a dog measures 36 inches from the base of the neck to the base of the tail. We add 12 inches so the dog can stretch out and curl a little: 36 plus 12 equals 48 inches. Every bed in this guide is at least 53 inches long, so length is not the limit. Width is: the EHEYCIGA Foldable bed is 38 inches wide, and a stretched dog with a bolster on each side loses some of that. A 42 inch width gives about 4 more inches. If your dog weighs 120 pounds, only the Dogbed4less listing (150 pounds) states a limit above it. The WROS listing states 100 pounds, which is below that weight.

Listing conflicts to know about

  • TNELTUEB: the title says 77.5 x 61.8 x 9.8 inches but the structured fields say 1 x 1 x 1 inch.
  • CWAWZ: the Size field says 53 x 42 x 9.5 inches, but the item dimensions field lists 9.5 inches as the width and 42 inches as the thickness.
  • AMOISE: titled XXXL, yet a bullet says the sleeping area fits medium-sized dogs.
  • WROS: the care field shows both Hand Wash Only and Machine Wash.
  • Fvkind: the weight is 34.4 pounds in one field and 34.5 in another, a small gap, but a reminder to read each field.

When a listing disagrees with itself, ask the seller for the size chart before you order, and plan for the smaller number.

Who should skip a giant bed

Skip the human-size group if you rent a small apartment, if the bed has to go through a narrow hall, or if your dog likes a tight nest. A dog that curls up in a ball may use only a quarter of a 71 inch bed. Skip all eight if your dog chews bedding: the Dogbed4less bullets say the bed is not suited to destructive chewers, and no listing here promises otherwise. No bed is indestructible, and chewers need supervision.

Mistakes to avoid

  • Choosing on length alone and ignoring the weight limit.
  • Trusting a title size when the dimension fields disagree.
  • Assuming the filling is washable. For several beds only the cover is.
  • Forgetting that a bolster takes up sleeping space.
  • Buying a thin 4 inch pad for a dog that wants a deep mattress.

FAQ

What is the largest dog bed you can buy on Amazon?

Among the listings opened for this guide, the largest stated size is 77.5 x 61.8 x 9.8 inches from TNELTUEB. Its structured dimension fields read 1 x 1 x 1 inch, so rely on the title and ask the seller to confirm. The next largest is 73 x 56 x 12 inches from Fvkind.

Are human-size dog beds meant for dogs?

The listings call them human dog beds, meant to hold an adult and a pet together. They are simply very large beds. Check the weight limit if the listing gives one, and note that two listings here give none.

How big a bed does a giant breed need?

Measure the dog, not the breed label. The American Kennel Club tells owners to measure back length along the spine from the base of the neck to the base of the tail with the dog standing. Add room for stretching out, then compare with the sleeping area on the listing.

Which bed here has the highest stated weight limit?

The Dogbed4less Jumbo lists 150 pounds. The WROS bed lists 100 pounds. The other six listings state no maximum weight.

Can I wash a giant dog bed in a home washer?

Usually only the cover. The EHEYCIGA listing says to remove the bolster filling first, and the WROS listing says to take out the filler. Check the washer drum size before you buy, because a 71 in cover is bulky.

Do very large beds help with joint problems?

Several listings describe their foam as orthopedic, but none of the listings we opened gives a medical result. If your dog has a joint condition, ask your vet what kind of support it needs.
