Best Water Bowls for Dog Crates: 10 Crate-Mount Options

As an Amazon Associate we earn from qualifying purchases.

The best water bowls for dog crates are bowls that clip, bolt or bracket onto your crate bars and hold enough water for your routine. This comparison covers 10 crate-mount bowls. Each entry uses only the listing fields recorded on 2026-10-21, plus guidance from the sources at the end. It is a comparison, not a ranking.

Start with the mount, because a bowl that does not fit your bars is the wrong bowl at any capacity. Then compare capacity, bowl size, material and removal. Where a listing gives no figure, the table says not stated. We do not repeat listing claims about posture, digestion or joint comfort, since none of the sources we opened supports them.

Quick answer

  • Mount first. All 10 bowls are listed as attaching to crate, kennel or cage bars. Measure your bars and wall before you compare sizes.
  • Capacity. Seven listings state a capacity, from 20 oz to 2.5 L (84 oz). Three do not, so compare those by bowl size and your own refill routine.
  • Cleaning. Seven listings describe the bowl as dishwasher safe. AKC advises washing food and water bowls daily and disinfecting them weekly with diluted bleach.
  • Dog size. Six listings name a dog size. Four do not, so do not assume a bowl suits your dog’s size.

How these bowls attach to a crate

The mounts in the listings come in four styles: wing-nut clips that grip a bar, metal brackets with tightening knobs, a rotating twist-lock bracket, and a snap-fit system. The Kennel-Gear 2-quart listing describes a metal bracket with tightening knobs. The Lixit listing describes a twist-on, twist-off bowl whose bracket rotates and locks. MidWest describes a patented snap-fit system. Several listings say no tools are needed to install, and the others do not say either way.

Bar fit is the part the listings leave open. The listings say the bowls fit horizontal or vertical bars, and some say thick or thin bars, chain link or pens. None gives a bar gap, a wire thickness or a list of crate models, and several say only that they fit most crates or kennels. Measure the gap between bars and the bar thickness where the bowl will sit, then confirm with the seller before you order.

Capacity and bowl size from the listings

The table uses only what each listing states in its title, bullets or product fields. Not stated means the listing gave no figure we could record.

Product (ASIN) Capacity as stated Material as stated Bowl size as stated Dog size as stated
Kennel-Gear 20 oz (B0FQFM8N6S) 20 oz Polypropylene Not stated Not stated
Wrifazaly 2-pack large (B0DNJKF7JH) Not stated Stainless steel 7 in wide by 3.7 in high; 7.1 in wide by 3.8 in high Medium large
Wrifazaly 2-pack 304 (B0CSWN3XWW) Not stated 304 stainless steel Food 6.3 in across by 2.6 in high; water 7.1 in across by 3.7 in high Medium large (title)
YECERCAN 40 oz and 60 oz (B0BBRGDPJR) 40 oz and 60 oz Stainless steel Water 7.1 by 3.5 in; food 6.3 by 2.6 in Medium and large (title)
Twinsing 2.5 L (B0GR8MW9RM) 2.5 L (84 oz) Stainless steel Not stated Medium and large (bullet)
SSAWcasa 2-pack (B0C9Y5FX8H) Not stated Stainless steel Water 6.3 in across by 2.6 in high; food 5.5 in across by 2.4 in high Not stated (cats and puppies)
Vermida 44 oz and 31 oz (B0GX8YP5LD) 44 oz and 31 oz Food-grade stainless steel Water 6.3 in wide by 2.6 in high; food 5.5 in wide by 2.4 in high Small dogs and cats (title)
Kennel-Gear 2 quart (B0G6LJSTK8) 2 quart Stainless steel Not stated Not stated
Lixit 20 oz (B0002Z1692) 20 oz High-density polystyrene Not stated Large dogs (bullet)
MidWest Homes for Pets 1 quart (B000MD3NLS) 1 quart (4 cups) Stainless steel Not stated Not stated (dogs and cats)

Two calculations use only those listing numbers. The Twinsing set states 84 oz, and the Kennel-Gear 20 oz bowl states 20 oz. Formula: 84 divided by 20 equals 4.2, so the larger bowl holds about 4.2 times as much by stated capacity. The Vermida set states 44 oz and 31 oz. Formula: 44 divided by 31 equals about 1.4, so its larger bowl is about 1.4 times the smaller one. These ratios compare listings. They do not tell you how long a bowl lasts, because our sources give no daily water figure for dogs.

Bowl width also matters for crate fit. The larger bowl in the two Wrifazaly sets and in the YECERCAN set is listed at 7.1 inches across, while the larger bowl in the SSAWcasa and Vermida sets is listed at 6.3 inches. Formula: 7.1 minus 6.3 equals a 0.8-inch difference in listed diameter. That is small, but it can decide whether a bowl clears a door frame or a neighboring bowl. Bowl heights in the sets that state them run from 2.4 to 3.8 inches.

Two dimension fields are not bowl sizes. The Kennel-Gear 2-quart listing gives product dimensions of 10 by 8.5 by 3 inches, and the Twinsing listing gives 7.7 by 4.9 by 7.7 inches. The listings do not say whether these describe the bowl, the set or the packaging, so do not read them as bowl widths.

Water access and cleaning

AKC’s crate training guide says to provide water in the crate as well. A crate with no bowl is therefore the mistake to avoid, and the bowl you choose has to be one you can refill and clean. AKC’s cleaning guide advises washing food and water bowls daily to avoid a buildup of food residue and biofilm. It also advises disinfecting the bowl once a week with bleach diluted in water, soaking it for about 10 minutes and rinsing it thoroughly. For the dishwasher, AKC says to use a dishwasher-safe bowl on a high-heat setting.

Cornell’s Riney Canine Health Center includes keeping every water bowl clean and fresh among its recommendations in an article on canine polyuria and polydipsia, a condition involving increased drinking and urination. That article is about illness, so if your dog drinks or urinates more than usual, ask your vet. The general cleaning advice still applies to a healthy dog’s bowl.

Removal is the practical question. Eight listings say the bowl comes off the crate for cleaning, filling or refilling. Those are the two Wrifazaly sets, YECERCAN, SSAWcasa, Vermida, Lixit, MidWest and Twinsing. The two Kennel-Gear bowls do not say whether the bowl detaches. If you plan to wash daily, removal matters more than capacity. A bowl that stays on the bracket is harder to empty and scrub. For a no-spill option that sits on the floor rather than the crate, see our no-spill floor bowl guide.

Dishwasher statements differ. Seven listings describe the bowl as dishwasher safe or say it can go in the dishwasher. SSAWcasa recommends hand-washing so that its printed design lasts. YECERCAN and Lixit say nothing about the dishwasher. Eight listings say stainless steel, two say plastic, and we do not rank the materials for hygiene or durability.

How we chose

The set is 10 crate-mount bowls, with listing text recorded on 2026-10-21. A bowl was included when the listing says it attaches to a crate, kennel or cage bar. All 10 meet that test, so none was dropped for product type, and no plain floor bowls appeared in the set to drop. The fields we tabulated were capacity, material, bowl size, dog size, mount, removal and dishwasher statements.

The order in the table and the product list follows the order the listings were recorded, not quality. We did not rank the bowls, and we do not claim that one bowl outperforms another. One listing has a figure that conflicts with its own capacity, the Lixit weight. We flag it in the product list and in the limits below rather than choosing one figure silently.

For bowls that sit on the floor instead of the crate, the no-spill design guide on this site covers a different product type. A slow-drinking bowl is a separate search, and our slow-drinking water bowl guide covers it.

What we could not verify

  • Bar fit. No listing gives bar gap, wire thickness or a list of crate models. The fits-most-crates statements are unverified.
  • Mount strength. No listing gives a pull, push or load figure for the bracket, so we cannot say how a bowl holds up when a dog pushes on it.
  • Water per day. Our sources give no daily water figure, so stated ounces do not translate into days of water.
  • Dishwasher and bleach. The dishwasher statements are listing claims. We do not know whether any material in the set tolerates AKC’s weekly bleach soak, so check that against the material before you soak.
  • Material grades. Terms such as 304 stainless steel, food-grade and rust-resistant come from the listings. No material document was part of our sources.
  • Two conflicting figures. The Lixit listing gives 0.8 ounces, which looks too light for a 20 oz plastic bowl. We could not resolve it from the listing.
  • Health claims. Listing bullets describe posture, digestion, stomach and joint benefits. None of our sources supports them, so we leave them out.

Buying checklist

  1. Measure the gap between your crate’s bars and the bar thickness where the bowl will hang. No listing gives a range, so this number has to come from you.
  2. Decide whether you need a stated ounce capacity. Three listings state none, so choose those only when bowl size is enough for your routine.
  3. Match the dog size line to your dog. Six listings name one, and the rest do not.
  4. Confirm removal. Eight listings say the bowl comes off the bracket, and the two Kennel-Gear listings do not say either way.
  5. Confirm the cleaning route. Seven listings say dishwasher safe, and three do not say so. Any bleach soak also needs a material that suits it.

Mistakes to avoid

  • Buying on capacity alone. Three listings state no capacity, so capacity cannot be the only check for those bowls.
  • Assuming every bowl goes in the dishwasher. Three listings do not say the bowl is dishwasher safe, and SSAWcasa recommends hand-washing.
  • Relying on fits-most-crates wording. Several listings use it, but none gives a bar gap, so measure before you order.
  • Mismatching the dog size. Vermida’s title names small dogs and cats, while Lixit’s bullet names large dogs. A bowl sized for one may not suit the other.
  • Leaving the bowl out of the crate. AKC’s crate guide says to provide water in the crate as well, so an empty bracket is the mistake to avoid.

5. Twinsing 2-pack no-spill stainless steel set, 2.5 L

Listing fields: stainless steel; 2.5 L (84 oz) capacity; floating anti-splash disk; bowls detach for cleaning; tool-free installation; dishwasher safe; medium and large dogs in a bullet; height adjustable; product dimensions 7.7 by 4.9 by 7.7 inches and 2.47 pounds; date first available May 5, 2026.

Why it is here: It has the largest stated capacity in the set. By the listing numbers, 84 divided by 20 gives 4.2 times the Kennel-Gear 20 oz bowl.

Limit: The bullets claim fewer refills and days of fresh water. Our sources give no daily water figure, so we did not verify that claim.

Skip if: your crate wall cannot carry a 2.47-pound bowl, or you do not want a floating disk.

Why it is here: Its water bowl is tied with Vermida for the smallest stated water bowl in the set, at 6.3 inches across, and the listing describes it for cats and puppies.

Limit: The listing recommends hand-washing, so the dishwasher is not the route it names.

Skip if: you plan to run every bowl through the dishwasher.

Limit: The listing is written for small dogs and cats, and it is dated July 13, 2026, the most recent date in the file.

Why it is here: It is the only bowl the listing describes as twist-on and twist-off for removal, and it is the only plastic bowl that names large dogs.

Limit: The listed 0.8 ounces looks too light for a 20 oz plastic bowl, and we could not resolve that conflict from the listing.

Skip if: you need a weight you can rely on, because the 0.8-ounce figure conflicts with the 20 oz capacity.

FAQ

Will a crate water bowl fit any crate?

No listing names crate models, and several say only that they fit most crates or kennels. Listings say their clips fit horizontal or vertical bars, and some mention chain link. Measure your bars and ask the seller before you order.

How often should I wash a crate water bowl?

AKC advises washing food and water bowls daily and disinfecting the bowl once a week with bleach diluted in water, with a 10-minute soak and a thorough rinse. If you use a dishwasher, choose a bowl the listing says is dishwasher safe and use a high-heat setting.

Should my dog have water in the crate?

AKC’s crate training guide says to provide water in the crate as well. We found no source on removing water at night, so ask your vet or a certified trainer about overnight water. For a wider overnight setup, see our overnight crate blanket guide.

Which bowl in this set holds the most water?

By stated capacity, the Twinsing 2.5 L set is the largest, at 84 oz. That is the listing number. Our sources give no daily water figure, so use your own refill routine to decide whether it is more than you need.

Is a stainless steel bowl better than plastic for a crate?

Our sources do not rank materials. Eight listings say stainless steel and two say plastic. Pick by your cleaning routine, the listed bowl size and whether the bowl comes off the bracket for washing.

Bottom line

Choose the mount first, then the bowl you can remove and clean, and only then the capacity. If your crate bars match a listing and it says the bowl comes off for washing, that is a better buy than a larger bowl you cannot remove.
